Greek football player Kyriakos Papadopoulos has transferred to Bayer Leverkusen permanently after signing a five year contract. At the beginning of his career the 23-year-old defender used to play for Olympiakos, before joining Schalke 04 in 2010. On August 2014, he signed with Bayer Leverkusen as a loan for the summer season, however the club was so impressed with his performance that they decided to sign him on permanently. “I’ve had a fantastic time at Leverkusen despite my two shoulder injuries,” the young football player stated, adding that he would like to continue playing under manager Roger Schmidt. During his time in Olympiakos Papadopoulos participated in several pre-season friendlies, three league games, and three Greek Cup games. Upon his arrival in Germany he quickly showed his talent and was part of the Schalke team that won the German Cup in 2011. However, due to a series of injuries he was forced to drop down the list of Schalke’s defenders. His recurring knee problems restricted him to just four appearances during the 2013–14 season. It was also the reason he missed the World Cup in Brazil. Papadopoulos also suffered from a series of injuries while playing as a seasonal loan for Bayer Leverkusen, but he did eventually show his worth. As a result the club entered negotiations with Schalke to purchase his contract. On 7 June 2015, the deal was finalized and the Greek international signed a 5 year contract with a 6.5 million euro transfer fee.
