21st Kalamata International Dance Festival

The Kalamata International Dance Festival has been continuously contributing to Greece’s artistic life for twenty one years and it has become an internationally recognized European festival, following a stable path and committing to the principles and objectives that had been set from the start. The 21st International Kalamata Dance Festival will be held from July 17 to 24 and will showcase distinct aspects of contemporary Greek and international dance creativity, presented by professionals, students, amateurs and the public. The Dance Festival is inextricably linked with the city of Kalamata and its cultural life that has bloomed at every level in recent years. The festival has established partnerships with the city’s cultural institutions in order to flourish and show the joint effort for cultural development. The difficulties that the country has faced in recent years have also influenced the Dance Festival. However, the organizers always seek to maintain the high artistic level within their financial capacity in order to bring the public in touch with the latest developments in contemporary dance but also to create new proposals in relation to more contemporary concerns of the global dance community. This year’s event will focus on young and emerging artists. Foreign performers will represent three different continents, Europe (Igor and Moreno), Africa (Dada Masilo) and Asia (Wen-Chi Su). In regards to Greek production, the festival’saim was and continues to be the promotion of Greek contemporary dance and Greek choreographers, as well as the creation of a communication channel between the domestic and international dance scene. As always, the festival schedule will also include educational activities, such as a daily seminar for professionals and dance students led by Spanish dance teacher Laida Aldaz Arrieta.
