Transport Strikes to Disrupt Traffic in Greece Prior to Labor Day Holidays

The number of security traffic controls in Greece have increased prior to the upcoming Labor Day (May 1) holidays. Travelling of cargo vehicles has been banned. Meanwhile, flights to and from Greece have been cancelled on account of a three-hour strike. Additionally, marine transport will also be cut for several hours as workers have scheduled massive protests. Flights to and from Greek airports will remain cancelled until 4 pm Thursday as a part of the protests, as employees object to insufficient people to deal with the large work volumes. Railroad traffic will also be majorly stopped, as all employees will be taking on the streets as a sign of protest. All trains will be discontinued after Thursday midnight. Meanwhile, an increased number of police officers will be deployed to ensure higher control over road traffic. Traditionally, most of the hotels in the northern part of Greece have been reserved almost entirely by Bulgarians. An increased interest of tourists has been shown to Tasos and Samotraki, as reported by travel agencies. Protest demonstrations are set all across Greece. Stores will also remain closed on Friday, but will compensate customers with 24/7 work schedules on Saturday and Sunday.
