Greek Minister of State: We Need a Public Broadcaster Free from Pathogenies of the Past

“The revival of Greece’s public broadcaster ERT is a resounding response of dignity, a victory of democracy,” Greek Minister of State Nikos Pappas stated, opening the debate on the ERT draft bill in Greek parliament on Monday. “The government decided to give a resounding answer of dignity to those who attempted to keep the conditions of impoverishment of the Greek people alive, not just in the economic but also in the cultural field,” he said and called on all political parties to contribute to the regeneration of the public broadcaster. “We need a public broadcaster open and free from the pathogenies of the past. A counterbalance to the propaganda, independent from any state intervention but mostly independent from private interests, as the draft bill specifies,” Pappas said, adding that the aim is to restore the relation between the citizen and the public broadcaster.
