Burnt Body Found on Norman Atlantic

The “Norman Atlantic” tragedy death toll has risen to 12, after Italian media reported that a charred body was found on board the ferry. “Norman Atlantic” was engulfed in flames in the sea area north of Corfu on December 28. The body was found in a truck cabin on deck four. The new discovery that came over a month after the tragic accident, brought the death toll to a total of 12 people – ten passengers and 2 Albanian rescuers – and the number of missing passengers to 18. The unfortunate person’s body was recovered and transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute in Bari, where the necessary DNA examinations will be performed for its identification, as well as an autopsy by coroners. The ferry was towed to the port of Bari by Italian authorities for inspection in order to determine what caused the fire. Three Greek, two Italian, two German, one Turk and one Georgian passenger lost their lives due to the fire. According to the passenger list, another 18 people are currently missing, while inspectors believe that more bodies may be trapped on the ship.
