Thessaloniki on National Geographic’s Top 10 Nightlife Cities

When traveling to foreign cities, tourists visit all the beautiful monuments and sights, however, the best way to learn more about a city or a country is to explore its nightlife. National Geographic has published a guide to cities around the world, known for their best nightlife. From Europe to Latin America, these are places that anyone must visit at least once in their lifetime in order to experience their magical and adventurous nightlife. The ten cities chosen by the magazine’s editors offer a great variety in clubs, bars and hotspots where people meet to have fun and party all night long. Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest city, located in the northern part of the country was ranked 9th on the list among travelers’ favorites nightlife destinations around the world. “Remember those playful old Grecian mosaics? The spirit’s alive and well in the Syngrou/Valaoritou and Ladadika districts, not to mention all those beaches. Thessaloniki has more cafĂ©s per capita than any other European city,” noted the magazine. Other cities that made it on the list are: Dublin, Ireland (1st place) famous for is Temple Bar area, filled with watering holes and nightclubs, followed by Belgrade, Serbia, with its riverboat and industrial clubs. Furthermore, in La Paz, Bolivia, despite the high altitude and chilly weather, tourists and locals get lost every night in the city’s taverns, bars and nightclubs. Sao Paulo, Brazil was in 4th place, followed by San Juan, Puerto Rico and Goa India. The National Geographic list was completed by Ibiza, Spain in 7th place, Houston Texas in 8th place and last but not least Baku, Azerbaijan “the coolest bar scene” on the side of Caucasus.
