Olympiakos cruised his way to the Greek Cup‘s quarter-final after an excellent display of football against second division’s club Tyrnavos. The final whistle found the reds up 8-0 with Durmaz (3), Fuster, Diamantakos, Milivojevic (2) and Buhalakis as scorers. Ever since the switch of managers, Olympiakos has shown an improved, more attacking style of play, one that suits the Greek champions. An example of this, was today´s clash against Tyrnavos of the Larissis region. The first round had seen the reds walk away with a 0-3 victory which didn’t leave much for their opponents to hope for, except maybe from a nice trip to the historical Karaiskakis venue. Swedish winger Jimmy Durmaz was the absolute protagonist of tonight’s clash, as he scored a hat-trick (two free-kicks) and assisted three more. A player disremembered by former coach Michel, who´s now been given a second chance to show his abilities. Furthermore, Milivojevic returned from an injury scoring two headers and throwing the ball to the new coach that he´s probably the most valuable midfielder Olympiakos possesses. Regardless of the opponents’ level, the champions´performance was a wonder to watch and a precursor of what Vitor Pereira has in line for the upcoming crucial Europa League matches. For the same tournament, Iraklis Thessalonikis threw out Asteras Tripolis with a 0-1 away win, while Chania qualified on penalty kicks against PAS Giannena. In the rest of the second leg’s matches, Panionios, OFI and Apollon Smirnis found their way to the next round over Veria, Panthrakikos and Levadiakos respectively. Tomorrow Panathinaikos will go against Skoda Ksanthi, while Kerkyra will face AEK Athens.
