World’s Richest Saudi Prince Visits Crete Combining Vacation and Investments

The world’s richest Saudi prince and one of the most powerful people globally, Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, arrived on the island of Crete, Greece on Saturday. The Saudi prince’s private plane landed at Nikos Kazantzakis airport in Heraklion, Crete, where Prince Al-Waleed was welcomed by the Greek Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni. The prince will spend his week-long vacation at a luxury resort in Elounda, but he will stay at his private boat for security reasons. The luxurious yacht, anchored at a distancce from the resort, has already attracted great interest from locals for its size and amenities. It is very likely that the Tourism Minister will guide the royal couple around Plaka and Agios Nikolaos. Kefalogianni had met with Al-Waleed bin Talal in February, when she visited Saudi Arabia and invited him to Greece. The Saudi prince is one of the biggest investors in the world and one of the major shareholders of the Group Four Seasons. He has also expressed interest in Greek investments such as the Asteras hotel complex in Vouliagmeni and Grand Resort Lagonissi. The prince’s Kingdom Holding has investments all over the world, including in some of the largest companies, Amazon, AOL/Time Warner, Apple Inc., Citigroup, Coca Cola, Compaq, eBay, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Ford, McDonald’s, Motorola, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, Procter & Gamble and Walt Disney Company. In 2012, his company bought shares in twitter worth 300 million dollars whose current value is more than 1 billion. According to Forbes magazine, his personal fortune amounts to more than 20 billion dollars and he is the most influential Arab in the world. It should be noted that in 2013, the Saudi Arabian sued the magazine by arguing that his fortune is much larger than that what Forbes says. Βloomberg calculates his fortune at 30.9 billion dollars. The Saudi Prince owns an Airbus Α380 plane which he uses for his personal trips. Prior to his trip to Greece, he was visiting Croatia where he also met with government officials and expressed interest in Croatian tourist investments.
