The Magical Athens Riviera

Glyfada is a suburb of Athens,  located just 25 minutes South from the Acropolis.  It looks like a suburb of an American town with wide, clean streets surrounded by trees, beautiful houses and a very vivid commercial center full of nice restaurants, shops and promenades. The beach stretches for miles and people are able to go for a long walk near their homes, wearing either their clothes or swimsuits and looking at the amazing view of the mountain behind Glyfada.  It is a magical place. The 21 mile beach that starts from Glyfada and ends in Sounion and the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon in the south of Attica, one can found hot springs, seaside luxury resorts, sandy beaches, all of them awarded with the “Blue Flag” for their clear waters. The small towns that are located near Athens Riviera, such as Voula, Varkiza or Lagonisi, give visitors the chance to feel the magical Greek island aura without having to step off the mainland. Greek salad, fried calamari, fresh fish from the crystal clear waters of the region and hundreds of other traditional Greek delicacies are offered generously in all of the area’s taverns. The area is famous for its ancient attractions, with the most important being that of the temple of Poseidon at Sounion, which is a marvel of ancient architecture and has of the most breathtaking views. The temple of Poseidon in Sounio is also a vertex of an imaginary isosceles triangle with its other two being the Temple of Aphaia on Aegina and the Acropolis downtown Athens, famous from antiquity.
