Syrtaki Dance Gains Fans in Mykonos

In a bid to attract more tourists, entrepreneurs on Mykonos have put an emphasis on Greek folklore, and Syrtaki and other Greek dances, considered old-fashioned by many, seem to be coming back into fashion, attracting tourists and locals alike. “Roca Cookery” restaurant was a pioneer in bringing Syrtaki back to Mykonos. Located above the old port does a roaring trade for its cuisine alone, but every Tuesday night, professional Greek dancers draw the crowds to teach those unfamiliar with Syrtaki, Zeibekiko and Hasapiko. The great food and dance prove to be the perfect combination to make a party that lasts until the small hours.
