FOTOGRAFIA: The End of ERT
In what became a symbol of critics against what they perceive as an authoritarian Greek government, handcuffs were snapped on the metal fence gate of the shut-down former state broadcaster ERT in Athens after dozens of people who used to work there were summarily evicted by riot police.
Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, who ordered the firing of all 2,653 workers in June to satisfy international lenders, sent in the cops to oust the former workers so that a planned replacement station, NERIT, which is months behind schedule in opening, could get into the facilities and start broadcasting some time next year.
