Chian Federation Bestows Homeric Award on Athena Kromydas

ASTORIA ? ?After all this what can I say?? Those were the words that issued from a humbled educator, Tsokou-Kromydas, Principal of The William Spyropoulos Greek-American School of St. Nicholas in Flushing, who received the prestigious Homeric Award of the Chian Federation at its 34th Homeric Award Gala on November 2. Kromydas was honored for her decades of service as a teacher and school principal, her devotion to the children of the community and her passionate advocacy of Hellenism and Greek Paideia. After a stream of words from community leaders and admirers and an eloquent presentation her own, Kromydas, who said she accepted the award on behalf of all the community?s educators and teachers everywhere, told the gathering that filled the Chian Federation?s handsome Cultural Center that only two more words needed to be said: ?Efcharisto and Agapo ? Thank you and I Love you.? Stavros Haviaras, the president of the Chian Federation, presented the award. Dr. Nicholas Rallis was the MC and Fr. Paul Palesty, the pastor of St. Nicholas and offered the invocation. The guests were also welcomed by Nick Mihalios, the event?s chairman.
