Letter From Athens: Re-jailing the Messenger

You'd think that between trying to save the sinking ship of the economy and keep the crazies of the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn from turning Greece into the Fourth Reich, a disgrace for the country that created democracy and had the German Army running scared with ferocious resistance in WWII that Prime Minister Antonis Samaras would have something better to do than suppressing media freedom. And once you've been licked, you should have the dignity to walk away licking your wounds but Greece is persecuting whistleblower journalist Kostas Vaxevanis again after he was acquitted on charges of violating the privacy of 2,062 Greeks ? including tax cheats ? with $1.95 billion in secret Swiss bank accounts. Greece hasn't acted to vet the list for tax evaders since 2010 when then finance minister George Papaconstantinou was handed it by his French counterpart Christine Lagarde, now head of the International Monetary Fund, one of Greece's Troika of owners.
