Hungary PM slams migrant 'rebellion', U.N. warns of millions more refugees
By Krisztina Than and Stephanie Nebehay BUDAPEST/GENEVA (Reuters) - Hungary's prime minister angrily accused illegal migrants on Friday of "rebelling" against the rule of law in his country as security forces across Europe struggled to control record flows of hungry, scared refugees. The United Nations called for the swift creation of large-scale reception centres in frontline states such as Hungary and Greece, and one U.N. agency warned that millions more refugees could arrive in Europe if Syria's civil war continues to rage. Many of the tens of thousands of refugees now trekking from Greece via the Balkans and Hungary towards western Europe are fleeing the Syrian war in search of sanctuary, above all in more welcoming and generous countries such as Germany and Sweden.
Migrant flows to Greek mainland unabated as island bottleneck eases
By Michele Kambas ATHENS (Reuters) - A refugee bottleneck on Greece's easternmost islands has eased after recent dangerous overcrowding, rescue agencies said on Friday, as thousands of migrants per day continue to arrive on the mainland. The debt-strapped country is struggling to cope with a wave of mostly Syrian refugees using Greece, Macedonia and Hungary as transit routes to wealthier northern European nations, in one of the biggest migratory shifts in Europe in a century. Greek authorities this week began fast-tracking refugees off its worst-hit island, Lesbos, laying on extra ferries after a sharp increase in arrivals and slow processing threatened to overwhelm the 80,000-strong local population.
Record Numbers Cross Med Into Europe
The International Organisation for Migration estimated that 309,356 people had arrived by sea in Greece as of September 10, with another 121,139 arriving in Italy, 2,166 in Spain and 100 Malta. It comes as Hungary's prime minister has warned migrants that if they cross the border illegally they will be arrested from next week. Viktor Orban said migrants had rebelled against the country's laws and had failed to co-operate with authorities in recent days.

EU's Tusk says he will summon EU leaders if no migrant accord
European Council President Donald Tusk said on Friday he would summon EU leaders for an emergency summit unless they could agree on how to share out migrants. EU member states blocked the plan, with eastern European countries particularly resistant to accepting migrants. Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said on Wednesday the number needed to be quadrupled to 160,000 from overburdened Italy, Greece and Hungary, with mandatory quotas.
