King Charles III review – a Shakespearean tragedy with added phone hacking

This small-screen adaptation of Mike Bartlett’s play boasts political intrigue and Tim Pigott-Smith’s final, poignant performance as the titular monarch _The Queen is dead. And Phil the Greek as well – __Although he is not important in this tale. __’Tis time that Charles ascend, take up the reins __(No regnal pun intended, verily). __So starts King Charles III, Mike Bartlett’s take __On constitut’nal crisis up ahead __Which borrows heavily from Will the Bard, __Both hist’ry plays and tragedies, methinks: __Beleaguered king, prophetic ghost (Diana), __Plus structure, form of pentameter (iambic) …_ Da-DUM, da-DUM … Yeah, quite enough of that, I think.
