European Commissioner Moscovici: Greece Must Implement Reforms to Stay in the Euro

European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs Pierre Moscovici said on Monday that Athens needs to deliver a reforms plan as soon as possible in order to stay in the Eurozone. Moscovici spoke on French television regarding the Greek issue. “I have no plan B, I only have a plan A, and plan A is Greece in the Eurozone, but for Greece to stay in the Eurozone we need reforms now, we can’t prevaricate,” he said. Negotiations between Greece and its international creditors — the European Commission, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) — had stalled but have resumed over the weekend. Greece is rushing to complete the reforms list since state coffers are emptying at an alarming rate and is in dire need of urgent financing. Creditors insist that no aid funds will be disbursed before reforms are implemented. “We really need – now, there is no time to lose – the Greek government to deliver the reforms we are asking for,” Moscovici added.
