US judge cites state secrets in dismissing Greek businessman's lawsuit against anti-Iran group

by  Associated Press Judge, citing state secrets, throws out lawsuit over Iran Associated Press - 23 March 2015 19:03-04:00 NEW YORK (AP) — A federal judge citing national security concerns has thrown out a New York defamation lawsuit against a wealthy Greek shipping magnate brought against a nonprofit organization seeking to thwart Iran's efforts to obtain nuclear weapons. Judge Edgardo Ramos issued his written ruling Monday. He says the government had shown there was no solution that would allow the litigation to proceed while also safeguarding state secrets. The ruling came in a lawsuit billionaire Victor Restis brought against the American Coalition Against Nuclear Iran in 2013. Restis says the group was trying to ruin his reputation by falsely claiming he did business with Iran. His attorney Abbe Lowell says he's disappointed by the decision. A government spokeswoman has declined to comment.
