Greece confirms programme extension request

by  NEOnline | KT Confirming information leaked yesterday, Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis said that Greece will ask extension of the agreement with its creditors “for a few months”. Speaking to the German ZDF TV network, Varoufakis said that “we must extend the loan agreement by a few months in order to have enough stability to be able to negotiate a new agreement between Greece and Europe”. He admitted that for this “there will obviously be three or four conditions”. Earlier, Greek government spokesman, Gabriil Sakellaridis said that “we are on a good track to an agreement”. He noted that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has already started talks with European leaders in order to “find a real solution the soonest possible”. Greek government sources say the basis of the interim agreement will be the Moscovici draft resolution that was presented before the Eurogroup meeting, last Monday, but was rejected by Eurogroup president, Jeroen Dijsselbloem. According to EU sources, Commission president, Jean Claude Juncker, is very active in trying to achieve a compromise solution. Many consider the decision of Tsipras to nominate Prokopis Pavlopoulos and not current Greek Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos for the Presidency of the Republic is a gesture towards Juncker who did not want to see him leave the Commission.
