Former CFO of Siemens commits suicide

by  NEOnline | GK Heinz-Joachim Neubürger, former CFO of Siemens, committed suicide in Munich according to a report by the Greek Edition of Huffington Post. Neubürger got arrested over bribery allegations in 2008 and in 2014 Siemens obliged its former employee to pay the company €2.5 million to settle a civil recovery claim connected to the global bribery scandal Siemens resolved with U.S. and German authorities in 2008. Neubürger denied the accusations, and he had managed to win a lower court judgment reducing the fine imposed to him. Initially, Siemens had demanded about €15 million. The €2.5 million paid by the former CFO meant that “Mr. Neubürger had to forgo a large part of his personal assets as compensation for the damage," Siemens had said back in 2014. Few days ago, Siemens shareholders had praised that compromise. After leaving Siemens, Neubürger worked for a while in the financial investor company KKR and then he worked as an independent consultant, living mainly in London. Until the beginning of 2014 he was briefly chairman of the board of German press manufacturer Koenig & Bauer but later on appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board in Deutsche Börse. A spokesman for Deutsche Börse said that the death of Neubürger shocked the Supervisory board while he praised the former CFO of Siemens saying that he was a valuable consultant and person.
