Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Sia Anagnostopoulou participates in the 1st Greece-North Macedonia High-Level Cooperation Council (Skopje 02 April 2019)

At the 1st Greece-North Macedonia High-Level Cooperation Council, an Action Plan was signed covering all areas of cooperation between the two countries as well as individual agreements and memoranda of cooperation.Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Sia Anagnostopoulou signed an Agreement on the establishment of a border transit point between the two countries, which will link Promachoi in Greece with Majden in North Macedonia. In addition, the Alternate Minister countersigned the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Secretariat for European Affairs of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia for accelerating the accession process of North Macedonia to the European Union.In addition, it was announced that the two countries are proceeding with the establishment of Embassies, as provided for by the Prespa Agreement, which will replace the Liaison Offices that have been operating until today. Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Sia Anagnostopoulou stated, inter alia, that: “The Prespa Agreement is an paradigm of historical importance, not only on a national level but also in the entire Balkan region, as well as the European continent”, while stressing that the visit is of “great historical and political importance”. The Alternate Minister also referred to the importance that the implementation of the Action Plan will have for the deepening of bilateral relations and referred to Greece's support of North Macedonia’s EU prospects and accession course. Finally, Ms Anagnostopoulou stressed that “ the signing and entry into force of the Prespa Agreement demonstrates the political will for a common future marked by peace and solidarity.”
