Jean-Claude Juncker in Athens on Friday

Jean-Claude Juncker, the new President of the European Commission, will visit Greece on Friday, October 3, the office of the Greek Prime Minister announced Tuesday. Juncker will have a working lunch with Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras. The visit follows on an August 4 meeting between the leaders in Athens – one of Juncker’s first official trips as President of the European Commission. Samaras was one of two European leaders who signed the candidacy of Jean-Claude Juncker for the European People’s Party. He recently met with Juncker during a European Peoples’ Party Summit in Brussels. The two discussed details of the Troika’s unofficial meeting in Paris. According to sources, the two leaders spoke of positive developments in the Greek economy, as well as of the positive prospects for the Troika’s next evaluation of the Greek program.
