Bomb in Envelope Alarms Athens Stock Exchange

An investigation by the Greek counter-terrorist unit is currently under way in Athens after an envelope containing an explosive device was discovered in the mailroom of the Athens Stock Exchange on Thursday morning. According to initial reports, the envelope was mailed from Corfu by a travel agency. Bomb disposal experts called onto the scene destroyed the parcel in a controlled explosion, authorities said. The remains of the explosive device were sent to the Forensic Science Division for examination. The counter-terrorism unit is now beginning their investigation. The news came just a few hours after police unveiled three different apartments serving as hideouts for members of the “Conspiracy of the Nuclei of Fire” group operating out of Attica and Thessaloniki. It is unclear whether a connection exists to the “Conspiracy,” or why the Athens Stock Exchange was targeted. Police have not yet delivered an official statement.
