Danish Tourism Exhibition Honors Greece
The Danish tourism exhibition FERIE FOR ALLE was held in Herning between February 21 and 23. Greece was the official partner country of the exhibition and a wide range of activities during the exhibition was focused on Greece as a travel destination. Visitors showed a particular interest in Crete which had a dynamic presence at the exhibition. Crete hoteliers from Rethymnon, Chania and Sitia had their own booth which attracted many visitors and was great promotional addition to Greece’s tourism industry. According to the president of the Rethymnon Hoteliers Association, Manolis Tsakalakis, Crete and particularly Rethymnon and Chania impressed the Danes. Visitors were also attracted to Crete because of the reasonable prices and the heavy discounts on holiday packages offered by Crete hoteliers and travel agents. He also said that according to Danish tour operators, bookings for Greece already had a two-digit increase. “Greece is now an affordable holiday destination because of the many deals and the heavy discounts on holiday packages. Tourists wishing to visit Greece in summer 2014 need to hurry up and book in advance because there are few rooms available. This year is expected to be a very good year for Crete’s tourism industry,” Tsakalakis added. For the record, in 2013, 123,356 Danish tourists arrived at Crete’s airports and a total of 510,825 Scandinavians visited the island. Moreover, Crete will be participating in a major tourism exhibition on March 5, in Berlin and in another exhibition in Moscow to promote the island’s tourist packages and offers.
