When Maria's nephew had a car accident last month, the family had to wait around 40 minutes for the only operating ambulance on the Greek island of Kos to pick him up. In June, a 63-year-old woman had to be loaded on a pick-up truck as the Kos ambulance was occupied elsewhere.
