Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis’ meetings with Latvian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkevics and Parliamentary Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zanda Kalnina-Lukasevica (Riga, 06 July 2021)

Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis expressed Greece’s strong willingness to intensify its cooperation with Latvia within the framework of European institutions, during his meeting with Latvian Minister for Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkevics, today, July 6, in Riga, on the first official high-level government visit to Latvia after a particularly long period. As he added, the convergence of views between the two countries on issues such as regional challenges and the instrumentalization of migration flows at the EU's external borders is of particular importance. Afterwards, the Alternate Minister had a working meeting with his counterpart, Parliamentary Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zanda Kalnina-Lukasevica, during which talks focused on developments on the European pandemic management front, the introduction of the EU digital COVID Certificate, the Conference on the Future of Europe, as well as on the implementation of national Recovery and Resilience plans. The two counterparts took also the opportunity to reaffirm their full support for the Western Balkans’ EU accession process. Mr. Varvitsiotis will travel tomorrow, July 7, to Vilnius, Lithuania, at the last stop of his official tour in the Baltic States, where he will have a round of contacts with Lithuanian government officials and he will represent Greece at the 4th Ukraine Reform Conference.
