Responding to a journalist’s question regarding the issue of the management of the Nile’s waters and the repercussions unilateral actions by one of the states in the region would have, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Alexandros Papaioannou stressed the following: “Greece is firmly committed to the principles of international law and the peaceful resolution of disputes. It believes that any disputes regarding issues that concern cross-border flow of water and management of that water should be resolved based on these principles, bearing in mind the relevant international conventions. A key consideration for finding a mutually satisfactory solution is the promotion of constructive dialogue, as well as avoidance of unilateral actions regarding management of the Nile’s waters, as such actions could have negative repercussions not only for regional security and stability, but also for the prosperity of all interested states.
