Statements of Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias following his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, in Rome (13 January 2021)

“Today, we had very interesting and sincere talks with my Italian counterpart, Mr. Di Maio. We covered a number of topics. Bilateral relations – the ratification by Italy of our agreement on maritime zones – as well as economic issues. But we also talked about wider issues that concern the region, the Turkish provocative behaviour. I briefed him on the resumption of the exploratory talks on 25 January, Turkey’s broader conduct in the Eastern Mediterranean, and also issues concerning Libya and the Eastmed. The migration issue was also on the agenda. I think it is extremely useful for us to have an ongoing and sincere exchange of views with Italy. I made it clear that, while we respect their decision and their stance, Greece would like to see stronger Italian support on the sanctions issue.”
