Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Terens Quick meets with Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Water, Vangelis Haritatos.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Terens Quick met with Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Water, Vangelis Haritatos, who visited Greece at the invitation extended by the Deputy Minister during their meeting in Harare last November, which represented the first visit by a Greek minister to that country in 46 years. Mr Haritos is the first second-generation Greek to undertake a Ministerial portfolio in Zimbabwe. Talks between the two deputy ministers revolved around issues related to the very dynamic Greek community there, as well as to the activity of the Greece-Zimbabwe Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The opportunities that arise in Zimbabwe for strengthening the outward-looking nature of the Greek economy and Greek companies were also discussed at the Ministry of Agriculture, with Minister Stavros Arachovitis. Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Water noted, among other things, that due to the large number of scheduled projects related to infrastructure, agriculture, livestock breeding, water, and tourism, his country is amenable to welcoming Greek companies that are active in the fields of construction of motorways, small and large roadworks, ports, dams, residential complexes etc.  In addition, the special interest presented by the fields of standardisation of agricultural and livestock products was stressed, as well as of conveying the related technology from Greek institutions of higher learning.
