Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Sia Anagnostopoulou meets with the Ambassadors of Turkey, Croatia, Estonia, and Slovenia (Athens, 29 March 2019)

Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Sia Anagnostopoulou had courtesy meetings today, on the occasion of assuming her duties, with the Ambassadors of Turkey, Croatia, Estonia, and Slovenia. During her meeting with Turkish Ambassador Burak Özügergi, which was held in a friendly atmosphere, views were exchanged on current developments in Greek-Turkish relations, while ways and possibilities for further strengthening bilateral cooperation were discussed.  The Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, having recalled Greece’s support in Turkey’s European prospects, underscored the need for the Turkish side to fully respect the rules of International Law. The meeting with Croatian Ambassador Aleksandar Sunko confirmed the excellent relations between the two countries with regard to all bilateral relations. Ways and possibilities were discussed for further strengthening Greek-Croatian cooperation, as were current developments in the European Union. Special emphasis was placed on Croatia’s assuming the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2020. The excellent level of Greek-Slovenian relations was confirmed during the Alternate Minister’s meeting with Slovenian Ambassador Anita Pipan, with whom she exchanged views on current developments on a European and international level, as well as on the European prospects of Western Balkan countries. Finally, during her meeting with Estonian Ambassador Priit Pallum, talks revolved around current international developments, with an emphasis on the negotiations pertaining to the new European Multiannual Financial Framework, as well as on the European prospects of Western Balkan countries. Finally, ways and possibilities were discussed for further strengthening the excellent bilateral relations and Greek-Estonian cooperation in areas of common interest.
