Europe needs large refugee reception centres, must uphold right to asylum

The United Nations welcomed a European Union proposal on Friday to take 160,000 refugees as a step in the right direction but called for large-scale reception centres to be set up immediately in frontline Greece, Italy and Hungary. European states must uphold national and international law in managing its borders, including for the right for people to seek asylum from war and persecution, the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said in a statement.
