Here's what you need to know for Thursday. 1. Greece on Wednesday proposed a vague reform plan that includes a three-year aid program ahead of Thursday's deadline to submit a formal request to European creditors. 2. China is investigating the possible "malicious" short-shelling of shares in an effort to prevent the country's stock markets from crashing further, after plunging 30% in the last three weeks. 3. Trading on the New York Stock Exchange was halted for three hours on Wednesday, possibly due to a software update glitch. 4. Russia vetoed a draft United Nations resolution calling the Srebrenica massacre of 1995, in which 8,000 Muslims were murdered by Bosnian Serb forces, a “crime of genocide.”  5. More than four million Syrians have fled the civil war into neighbouring countries, creating the "biggest refugee population from a single conflict in a generation," the United Nations said.6. Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was sentenced to three years in prison for bribing a senator in 2006 in an attempt to bring down the ruling party, but the 78-year-old will not have to serve the sentence since the statute of limitations will expire before a final ruling on an appeal. 7. The South Carolina House approved a bill to take down the Confederate flag from the state's Capitol grounds, a move that comes weeks after the deadly shooting of nine black church members. 8. London's entire Underground network shut down on Wednesday evening and will stay closed through Thursday as 20,000 union workers strike over pay related to a new 24-hour train service coming in September.  9. China plans to suspend trains in Shanghai and has closed schools in the southern province of Guangdong ahead of two typhoons that are expected to make landfall separately, on Thursday and Friday.  10. UNICEF warned that a serious drought in North Korea means already malnourished children require immediate attention to prevent deaths. And finally ...
