Key creditors give positive assessment of bailout request

(Reuters) - Following is the latest news on Greece's debt crisis after euro zone leaders set Athens a deadline of the end of the week to come up with convincing reform proposals. 2231 - The European Commission, European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund have given a positive assessment of the Greek government's request to start negotiations on a new bailout, a person close to the matter said. 2206 - The leader of Greece's main opposition party, New Democracy, said it would back attempts by the government to seal a deal with international creditors to stave off financial meltdown.
