Box Office: 'Jurassic World' Tops 'Avengers 2' While 'Inside Out' Wins By Losing Weekend

Considering both blockbuster holdovers are claiming $30 million weekend estimates, we won't really know whether Inside Out or Jurassic World topped the holiday box office until the finals come out tomorrow. Here is why I am rooting for Inside Out to "lose" this weekend: If Inside Out tops the box office in its third weekend, it will lose what would have been an easy record for the biggest-grossing movie ever to not top the box office over a given weekend. The current record holder is My Big Fat Greek Wedding at $242m, a number that Inside Out will cross today via its current $246m domestic cume. But if it ends up topping the box office (or topping another weekend, but that's really unlikely), then it's just another mega-smash hit with one less feather in its cap. Obviously I'm sure Walt Disney cares as much about this record as they did about whether Inside Out topped its debut weekend back in mid June. But as a student of this kind of weird box office trivia, I was looking forward to crowning a new victor early next week.
