Crete: Couple Organizes a Different Kind of Baptism for Their Son

Nowadays, an infant’s Greek Orthodox baptism takes place inside the church, however, the Koudoumas Holy Monastery in Heraklion, Crete, decided to change things up. A couple from Crete baptized their son in a Christian Orthodox liturgy, reminiscent of ancient times, when children were baptized in the sea. Father Dimitris Michoudis baptized young Michail in the crystal clear waters of the Libyan Sea. The infant’s godmother who is of Cuban origin was baptized by the Christian Orthodox Church a few days earlier. The baptism liturgy took place in the presence of the Koudoumas Holy Monastery Abbot, Father Makarios, as well as the monastery monks. The Koudoumas Holy Monastery is located just a few meters from the sea waters, therefore the parents and Father Dimitris Michoudis had the chance to perform the liturgy in the sea, as it used to be done in the past.
