Greek Parliament President to Visit Moscow for Victory Day

Leaders from 30 countries have confirmed that they will be participating in the celebrations for the 70th anniversary since the Allied forces’ victory over Nazi Germany, scheduled to take place in Moscow between May 8 and 10. In addition, the leaders of several international organizations such as the UN Secretary General and the Director General of UNESCO will also be participating in the events said the Russian President’s assistant, Yuri Ushakov. Greece will be represented in the celebrations by Greek Parliament Speaker and member of the SYRIZA-led coalition government Zoi Konstantopoulou and a government official that has not yet been named. Konstantopoulou is expected to attend the military parade which will be held in Moscow. The parade will be one of the largest in recent years, with 15,000 servicemen, as well as 250 military vehicles. One of the tanks that will be presented at the parade is the Russian Army’s new Armata T-14 medium tank which has not yet been unveiled to the public, while 140 military aircrafts will fly above Moscow. One of Armata’s huge advantages is its adaptability to battle conditions, since among other things it has the ability to change guns, even using a 30mm gun for shooting flying targets. Furthermore, the Armata also has a strong protection system from enemy weapons, while it is able to shield itself during an attack, using anti-tank missiles and rockets. The Victory Day celebrations in Russia will last all day (May 9) with concerts, exhibitions, film screenings and other events, as well as fireworks to conclude the day.
