4.3 Magnitude Earthquake in Southern Crete

The Geodynamics Institute of the National Observatory of Athens has announced that a 4.3-magnitude earthquake hit the south of Crete on Monday evening at 11:41 pm. The tremor occurred 38 kilometers southeast of Tympaki and at a depth of about 20 kilometers. Earthquakes have historically caused widespread damage across central and southern Greece, Cyprus, Sicily and other neighboring regions. Last year, a series of strong earthquakes on the island of Kefalonia damaged hundreds of homes and injured more than a dozen people.
