Steps of Progress in Talks Between Institutions and Greece

European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas said on Thursday the Commission sees steps of progress in the ongoing talks between the creditors’ institutions and Greek authorities, following the Euro Working Group (EWG) on Wednesday. “We are continuing to work and make progress step by step,” the spokesman said. Asked if there was a deadline for reaching an agreement on the list of reforms presented by Greece, Schinas said that the February 20 agreement called for a complete list of specific reforms that must be approved by the institutions by the end of April. He said the next step in the process is a Eurogroup meeting in Latvia on April 24, adding that achieving an agreement before this date would be “welcomed.” Community sources told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency that no kind of ultimatum was presented to the Greek side during Wednesday’s EWG. The same sources said that much remained to be done on a technical level and that groundwork must be done to prepare for a decision when Eurozone Finance Ministers meet in Riga, Latvia, on April 24.
