President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos on Thursday spoke with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the telephone, during the Greek president’s visit to a border checkpoint in Kipi, Evros and the bridge crossing the Evros River into Turkey. The Greek president visited the guard post on the Greek side, exchanging Easter wishes with the soldiers and officers stationed there. He then walked to the middle of the bridge to exchange wishes with Turkish soldiers, local officials and officers on the Turkish side of the border, where he also spoke with Erdogan on the telephone. Sources said that Pavlopoulos extended a message of friendship and peaceful coexistence between the Greek and Turkish peoples, while Erdogan called for progress in issues between the two countries in accordance with international law, so that Pavlopoulos might accept an invitation to visit Ankara.
