Panathinaikos Wins the 2015 Greek Basketball Cup!

By beating Apollon Patras 68-53 at the Olympic Center of Athens, Panathinaikos won its fourth Greek Cup title in a row and a record sixteen times altogether.   In front of almost 12,000 fans (1,000 of which were Apollon supporters) the Greens imposed their supremacy by staying in front of the score from beginning to end. The game started with them running a 9-0 run and besides a tiny comeback which brought the difference down to 4 points (12-16), their opponents never again managed to threaten. With defense as their strength, the Greek Champions kept the 1997 finalists to 20/64 field goals and 15 turnovers. So with the help of MVP Loukas Mavrokefalidis (13points and 7 rebounds) and by having almost everyone on the floor score, Panathinaikos never let the team from the port of Patras hope for the surprise win. This was Dimitrios Diamantidis’ 11th Greek Cup final and 9th win, becoming the only player to have that many. Fragiskos Alvertis and Michael Batiste both of Panathinaikos, follow with 8 and 7 trophies respectively.
