New Democracy: Government Should Not Try to Take Credit for Work Already Done

Main opposition New Democracy accused Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Saturday of trying to take credit for the achievements of the previous government of Antonis Samaras. “The 2-billion-euro package [of EU funds] announced by Tsipras is the well-known result achieved after the negotiations of Mr. Samaras at the end of 2013, which was eventually agreed on for the period 2014-2020 from the same European budget,” party spokesman Costas Karagounis said. The spokesman also said that a large number of these funds have already been earmarked for specific social needs. “The government should focus on absorbing these funds within the year and by front-loading 2015, instead of taking credit for work which has already been done,” Karagounis added.
