by Associated Press Greek prosecutors seek ultra-rightist's release from jail Associated Press - 3 March 2015 10:35-05:00 ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greek prosecutors are recommending the head of the Nazi-inspired Golden Dawn party — the country's third-largest — be freed from prison pending trial for alleged participation in a criminal group. Prosecutors proposed to a council of judges Tuesday that Nikos Michaloliakos, one of the party's 17 lawmakers, should pay 125,000 euros ($140,000) bail and be placed under house arrest until the trial ends. Michaloliakos was arrested in September 2013, in a crackdown following the murder of rap singer Pavlos Fyssas, allegedly by a Golden Dawn volunteer. All 18 Golden Dawn lawmakers in Greece's previous parliament face criminal charges that carry a 20-year prison sentence. They deny wrongdoing. No trial date has been set. Michaloliakos was due for release by March 29, when the 18-month maximum pretrial detention period expires.
