Golden Dawn Chief and 2 MPs to be Released Ahead of Trial

Golden Dawn leader Nikos Michaloliakos and senior deputies Christos Pappas and Yiannis Lagos will be released from custody ahead of their trial tentatively scheduled for April. The Golden Dawn members are facing charges of forming and running a criminal organization. The three MPs will be released on March 27, when the maximum 18-month period in pre-trial custody expires. A specific date for the trial has not been set yet, but according to judicial sources it will take place after Greek Orthodox Easter on April 12. Michaloliakos and Pappas will remain under house arrest as they face additional charges of gun possession. Key Golden Dawn MPs Ilias Kasidiaris, Nikos Michos and Giorgos Germenis will remain in jail as they haven’t completed the maximum 18-month period in pre-trial custody. Party member Giorgos Roupakias is also expected to be released. Roupakias is charged with the murder of rapper Pavlos Fyssas on September 2013. He has also completed the maximum of his pre-trial custody period.
