Cartoon Shows Merkel Teaching Greece With a Whip

A new political cartoon about Greece depicts the tension between the crisis-stricken country and the way the European Union views its reluctance to implement reforms required by the bailout program. Political cartoonist Carlos Latuff uses German Chancellor Angela Merkel as the strict teacher with the whip showing Greece that it should “learn” the reforms. Greece is sitting on the desk as the good student ready to study. Latuff is a 46-year-old Arab Brazilian political cartoonist who mainly deals with the issues of anti-Zionism, anti-globalization, anti-capitalism and anti-U.S. military intervention. He describes his work as controversial.
