Thousands of Greeks to Rally for their Dignity

Demonstration rallies will be held in all major cities across Greece in support of Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis in today’s crucial emergency meeting of euro zone finance ministers in Brussels. The rallies will take place at 6 p.m. today under the slogan “A Breath of Dignity.” Greek people will demonstrate against the austerity measures and show their support to the new government’s effort to renegotiate the state debt. No to blackmail! We will not succumb! We are not afraid! We will not back down! We will win! These are some of the slogans that will be heard today by demonstrators across the country. Athens, Thessaloniki, Trikala, Patras, Lamia, Tripolis are only some of the cities. The mobilization started through various social media groups calling Greek people to take it to the streets and show their determination to say no to austerity and resist pressure by Greece’s lenders to accept the unpopular bailout measures. The people of Cyprus will also show their solidarity as a similar demonstration rally will be held in Nicosia, outside the European Union building. The internet groups call for additional rallies on Sunday, February 15, ahead of Monday’s scheduled Eurogroup.
