Dijsselbloem: no debt deal with Greece likely tonight

by  Dan Alexe Jeroen Dijsselbloem, the Dutch Minister of Finance and president of the Eurogroup, has downplayed expectations that a debt deal with Greece is likely at an emergency meeting Wednesday. Jeroen Dijsselbloem, who chairs the meetings of eurozone finance ministers, says "we will listen to the plans of the Greek government" and "we will look how we can deal with this over the coming days.” "I don't expect an outcome today”, he said. I have been quite clear about this, it's just the start of our talks, we have another Eurogroup already planned next Monday, we will move step by step,” Greece's finance minister, Yanis Varoufakis, is expected to unveil a series of measures to reduce the economic burden of the country's debts and the associated austerity measures. Varoufakis has said he's looking for a "bridging program" to tide Greece over the coming months. The European Union's 28 leaders will meet on Thursday, ahead of another eurozone finance ministers' meeting Monday.
