No Sign of 12 Turkish Tourists That Called European Emergency Number

Despite an ongoing “search and rescue” operation that continued through Saturday, Greek authorities have been unable to find any trace of the 12 Turkish tourists that called the European emergency number ‘112’ on Friday to ask for help. An initial search focusing on the Pieria mountains in Greece was called off earlier on Saturday after the Katerini Fire Brigade and the Central Macedonia Civil Protection Authority discovered that, due to a reflection of the signal, a mistake had been made in the initial tracking to the Pieria region. The search will now continue between Ormenio and Dikaia in Evros, with the help of the police force, fire brigade and Evros region civil protection service. The call to the 112 emergency number was made on Friday by a foreign national that claimed to be Turkish and trapped with another 11 of his compatriots in an unknown, barren location far from any inhabited region.
