Greek Police Detained 4 People Possibly Linked to Belgium Islamist Cell

On Saturday, Greek police detained four suspects who were allegedly linked to the Islamist cell that was organizing terrorist attacks in Belgium. Two cell members were killed on Thursday by Belgian police officers, while another one was arrested in an organized police operation that took place in Verviers. According to Belgian authorities the Verviers extremists were in regular contact with other Islamists in Greece. Greek police who acted at Interpol’s request, were given the identity of a man who had recently returned from fighting in Syria, similar to the three jihadists that were found in Verviers. According to Belgian media, the man was the brother of one of the extremists that were killed and he is thought to be the “mastermind” behind the Islamist cell. Furthermore, Greek media, report that in November 2014 authorities in the country had questioned families traveling from France to Syria to fight in the war. However, no evidence could be found against them and they were escorted back to a ferry leaving for Italy.
