Angela Merkel rules out cancelling any Greece debt

The German chancellor did say she will show solidarity with Greece and wants them to stay in the eurozoneGerman chancellor Angela Merkel has ruled out cancelling any of Greece’s debt, backing the refusal of the troika of lenders that bailed out the debt-ridden country to consider forgiving part of their rescue loans.Merkel’s intervention comes after the Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis refused to work with the troika – the European Commission, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund – to renegotiate the terms of the country’s €240bn (£180bn) bailout programme.
