4.6 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Zakynthos

A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Ionian island of Zakynthos, Greece, on Friday morning. The Geodynamic Institute said the quake’s epicenter was 60 kilometers southwest of the island. The tremor came at 8:16 am. No injuries or damage was reported. Earthquakes have historically caused widespread damage across central and southern Greece, Cyprus, Sicily and other neighboring regions. In January 2014, a series of strong earthquakes on the island of Kefalonia damaged hundreds of homes and injured more than a dozen people.
