4-Year-Old Girl Found Next to Dead Father in Northern Greece

A tragic incident occurred in Evros, northern Greece, when a 4-year-old girl was found curled up next to her father who had passed away, trying to protect herself from the cold. The child and the young man’s body were found by a farmer in a drilling water hutch located just 300 meters from Evros river. The farmer immediately alerted the local authorities. According to the man’s papers, he was a 32-year-old Syrian national. His body has been transferred to the University Hospital of Alexandroupolis, while his death has not yet been classified as a criminal act. The young girl had stayed with her father for around 10 hours before she was found and transferred to the General Hospital of Didymoteicho. She received first aid and doctors later notified the Smile of the Child organization. A social worker arrived at the hospital along with the rescuers in order to take the child to Thessaloniki, where she was admitted at the city’s general hospital. The girl was examined and her health state was evaluated. After doctors found that she was in good health, the Smile of the Child organization, in collaboration with international organizations, has begun efforts to reunite the child with her family. A translator attempted to figure out what happened to the 4-year-old girl but she has not yet been able to talk about it.
